When we set out to provide clean water, the immediate goal is always clear: stop disease. But as our ongoing project in the neighborhoods of Paraíso, Guabal, and Quiba within Ciudad Bolivar, Bogotá demonstrates, the true impact of a water filter ripples far beyond physical health. It transforms household economies, improves nutrition, and restores community potential.
In late 2025, Impact Nations partnered with our Global Partner, Briidge, and local community leaders to distribute 48 water filters across these specific communities. Tracking these families over six months using ESRI Survey123 has revealed a profound story of sustained transformation.
A Stabilized Health Crisis
Before the filters arrived, the community's health was compromised. At distribution, 10.4% of households were battling waterborne illnesses like diarrhea.
The immediate intervention was incredibly effective:
By strategically placing 7 of these filters in major community hubs—like Colegio Nueva Vida and local churches—we activated an "Institutional Multiplier". Instead of just serving individual households, these 48 filters are now providing safe drinking water to 699 people, averaging 14.5 beneficiaries per filter.
The Economic and Nutritional Ripple Effect
The most surprising and beautiful revelations from our six-month follow-up aren't just about health; they are about household finances.
According to recent updates from our Global Partner, families are experiencing daily savings between $4 and $6 USD because they no longer have to purchase filtered or bagged water. Over the course of a year, this equates to more than $1,000 USD in reclaimed income per family.
Instead of spending their limited resources on something as fundamental as safe drinking water, these families are reinvesting that money directly into their nutrition. Our partner notes that the quality of their diets has vastly improved, with most households now using their savings to buy protein staples like meat, chicken, and eggs.
This is beautifully reflected in the survey notes collected from the families themselves:
"Thank you for the filter since now I don't buy bagged water and that helps me to supplement my diet." — The Valdes Salvador Family
"It has been very good, we have generated habits of drinking water, and it has benefited us economically by not buying filtered water. Thank you." — Colegio Nueva Vida

Breaking the Cycle
The work in Paraíso, Guabal, and Quiba stands as a testament to holistic community development. By eliminating the cycle of waterborne disease, we are increasing economic participation by reducing missed days at work and school, and we are putting thousands of dollars back into the pockets of vulnerable families and putting better food on their tables. This is what it looks like to rescue lives for the long term.
Be Part of the Ripple Effect: Support Global Relief
The transformation we are witnessing in Ciudad Bolivar is just one piece of a much larger story. Around the world, clean water is often the first vital step in breaking the cycle of poverty. At Impact Nations, our global relief initiatives go beyond the initial intervention—we provide life-saving water filters, emergency medical care, and critical resources that pave the way for sustained, generational change.
When you support our relief efforts, you aren't just giving a temporary handout; you are keeping children in school, putting reclaimed income back onto family dinner tables, and restoring health to vulnerable communities.
