Meet Mariam
Unnamed country - Years after becoming a widow, Mariam’s only son and daughter-in-law were killed while fleeing violence. Still grieving, Mariam suddenly became the only caregiver, provider, and protector of her four young grandchildren.
With no income or shelter, Mariam and the children were forced to live on the streets. Each night, she did what she could to protect them from the heat, insects, rodents, and dangers around them. But as the days passed, the weight of caring for four children alone became overwhelming.
One night, after her grandchildren had fallen asleep, Mariam sat alone and cried. She prayed a simple prayer: “Lord, I am tired. I have lost my son, and I have no one left. If You still see me, please send me a sign that You are with us.”
The next day, our team noticed Mariam sitting beneath the scorching summer sun with her grandchildren gathered around her. They stopped and listened to her story. While some team members talked with Mariam, others began playing with the children.

Slowly, something changed. The children began to smile. Then they began to laugh. Watching them, tears filled Mariam’s eyes. “Since the loss of their parents, I have not seen them smile like this,” she said.
Through your generosity, the family received food, basic supplies, and a tent to protect them from the elements. But to Mariam, their arrival meant something even more: “I saw you as a message from God saying, ‘I see you, and I have not forgotten you.’”
Standing at the entrance of their new tent, Mariam summed it up simply: “This tent is more than a shelter to me. It is an answer to prayer.”
Your generosity met a family’s urgent physical needs that day. It also reminded a grieving grandmother that in one of her darkest moments, she had not been forgotten.
"This tent is more than a shelter to me. It is an answer to prayer"
