In just 20 minutes, Asmita Tamang watched everything her family had built disappear beneath the floodwaters.
Asmita is a 25-year-old mother of three living in Nepal. Her husband worked as a truck driver, regularly traveling between Kathmandu and Rasuwa, the region where devastating floods recently struck. Weeks after the disaster, he is still missing.
When the floods began, Asmita was working on a farm while her two daughters and son were on their way to school. Thankfully, both the farm and the school were far enough from the river to escape the destruction. But their family home wasn't so fortunate.
As floodwaters swept through their community, Asmita could only watch as her small home was washed away. Within 20 minutes, everything was gone. Where her house once stood, only rubble remained.
And her family wasn't alone. Homes throughout the community had been destroyed, leaving countless families facing unimaginable loss.
With no home to return to and no word about her husband, Asmita and her children found temporary shelter with neighbors in a remote village. But their future remains uncertain. Even relatives living across the Trishuli River remain unreachable, leaving her unsure of their safety.
In the midst of so much uncertainty, however, an unexpected act of kindness brought Asmita a glimmer of hope.
Thanks to the generosity of donors and the efforts of our local partners and pastors, emergency food supplies were distributed through a local church. A pastor invited Asmita to receive a relief package containing enough food to feed her children for an entire month.
As a Buddhist, Asmita admitted that she had previously held negative assumptions about Christians. But when the local pastor welcomed her, prayed for her family, and offered practical help regardless of her religious beliefs, her perspective began to change.
In a moment when she had lost nearly everything, she encountered compassion, generosity, and the love of Jesus expressed through action.
Although Asmita still faces an uncertain future, she no longer has to worry about how she will feed her children over the coming weeks. That provision has given her one less burden to carry as she navigates the aftermath of the disaster.
Because of your generosity, families like Asmita's are receiving more than emergency supplies. They're discovering that even in their darkest moments, they have not been forgotten.
As our partners continue reaching communities devastated by flooding, your support is helping provide food, essential supplies, and tangible expressions of God's love to families who have lost so much.
