Where the Rubber Hits the Road

This morning I received an email from Vince in India. I am once again humbled by his trust. 

For those who are unaware, Vince's team is in desperate need of a vehicle to carry food, medicine, supplies and his team to the poor in both their city and in the villages where they are planting churches and preaching the Gospel.

This vehicle is not a luxury, but an absolute necessity. They have no other car among them. They need a second hand SUV.

Almost every day of the week, Vince and his team are proclaiming and demonstrating the power and love of Christ among some of the poorest and neediest people I have ever encountered. They have been hit, had rocks thrown at them, been slandered terribly, been thrown out of their homes. (It sounds like what the Apostle Paul described, doesn't it?) These are our brothers and sisters.

A donor has pledged to match up to $5,000 of what we as a network can raise. Frankly, there are now 1,000 of us on the network. And how much larger does that number become when each of us includes our friends, churches, small groups, co-workers?

Jesus said that if we are going to have a solid foundation to our lives, being His true followers, then we must put His words into action. He said that to simply give verbal assent, but to not respond actively is to build on sand. These very serious words of our Lord confront us daily.

Most of us cannot personally cross the ocean to take the Gospel to remote, impoverished villages–at the risk of personal injury. Nor can we personally feed little children living on city sidewalks, or minister to boys and girls locked in prisons.

What we can do, is make it possible for Vince and his team to continue. What we can do is participate with them by giving the money that is needed to purchase the SUV. In a very tangible way, we will be with Vince's team as they feed the hungry, distribute medical care, preach the Gospel and hold the dying.

Now is the time. You and I are the people.  This is the need.
