As a tropical rain beats down, the team is finishing the orientation for conducting the mobile medical clinics that start tomorrow. For two days they have listened to teaching, been given practical equipping in effectively praying for the sick, met in care groups and just generally started to connect with one another. Most members had never met before, but already there is a significant sense of team building.
Two members sacrificially spent all day shopping for dentists supplies. We have a dentist who can see at least 30 people a day. Meanwhile, the rest of the team spent the afternoon sorting thousands of pills into individual dosages. Last night, we sorted more clothing, toys, school supplies etc. than we have ever taken to any nation (more by far). And all the while, there was the sound of people having fun together. In fact, last night as I went to bed after a long day, I passed by a large group whose day had been just as long as mine; they were playing cards, visiting and laughing together.
Tomorrow morning, we start in full force. We expect to see 3-400 desperately poor and sick people at the clinic. There is a team who will be doing a variety of projects in the heat–painting and water-proofing buildings, repairing roofs, clearing rubble. For the first time, as part of our medical clinic we will have a "free store" where families can chose a clothing item or toy for each member. In the evening we will have our first outdoor meeting with the whole team. After the healing that happened one the first night (that I wrote about 2 days ago), the word went out through Carrefour that healing was happening. I spoke on Saturday evening to about 1,000-1,500. Once the word got out, on Sunday night 6,000 gathered!. The team is ready to pray and to lead people to Jesus tomorrow night.
I see that the Tanzania mosquito net project has now been fully funded. About 200 kids will now be protected every night from malaria. Thanks to the group from Nanaimo for so freely giving last weekend, and thanks to the Calgary re:Life group for finishing it up. I am so thankful for every member of this Impact Network.
Today, people chose to activate their faith and their compassion, to reach out and rescue the lives of children in a country on the other side of the world. In Jeremiah 22:15-16, God commends a good king of israel, Josiah, because he took care of poor and the week. Then He says something very interesting: "Isn't this what it means to know Me?" We love God when we love people. Thanks for loving God so tangibly this week.
Stay tuned...
