I am at the hotel, waiting for the first team members to arrive. Christina will be at the airport throughout the day to greet them, making sure they all arrive safely (along with their luggage!) and getting them to the right van.
At 6:30 this morning, hundreds of people began to gather under the shade of large trees by the seaside. The church service began at 7. Church gatherings always happen early in the morning or in the evening––the heat makes anything else impossible. The natural setting is spectacular, with the Caribbean off to my right as I spoke from a high platform. But looking straight ahead, beyond the crowd, I was struck with the contrast: what had been a large stadium now lay a collapsed ruin.
These are a people surrounded by destruction. Everywhere one looks are destroyed buildings, hills of rubble, people now living shoulder to shoulder in tents and under tarps. However, what I heard today at this "outdoor cathedral" was the sound of joy and thankfulness. With the eyes of faith, they see a totally new kind of Haiti rising from the destruction of the old one. They are believing that God will give them what they ask for: justice and healing for the land, righteousness and faith, integrity and prosperity. I heard it in their songs, their testimonies and their prayers.
Near the end of the service, people began to come forward in order to give testimonies of the healing that the Lord did at last night's meeting. A line formed as one after another clearly shared of being healed. A woman who had suffered constant head pain since she was a teenager was suddenly and completely pain free. A man who had an accident 6 years ago and was in severe pain in his leg since then, danced before the church a shouted with joy that all pain was gone. These kind of testimonies went on for a long time. Because of the size of the crowd last night, I had simply asked them to put their hand over wherever the pain was, then I prayed healing. Jesus did an amazing work. I wonder just how much healing we will see in the next 12 days? I can hardly wait to meet with the team and prepare them to move among the sick of Carrefour with healing from Jesus.
