BSF Philippines Participated on Bukid sa Paglaum Event
Various Christian ministries in Davao City learned about the Bio Sand Filter Project
On November 4-5, 2011, different Christian organizations all over Davao City gathered at Hope Mountain to showcase their ministries. The event was called Bukid sa Paglaum: A Mindanao Christian Festival, spearheaded by Pastor Tim and Gloria Hagquist of Hope Mountain. According to Gloria, it has been their prayer that organizations would meet together to showcase their God-ordained ministries and pray for Mindanao.
BSF Philippines, which is under the umbrella of Cross Culture Ministries participated in the said event. After days of preparation, the BSF team set up a booth which depicts a fun and welcoming atmosphere. The blue and white balloons surrounding the booth attracted not only the children, but also those who were young at heart! Flyers, bookmarks and the BSF banner designed by Darrell Nelson all the way from Canada were made available as marketing materials. The Community Development team featured some pictures of their field work on a photo gallery. The Manufacturing and Distribution team set up a bio sand filter inside the booth for demonstration.
Throughout the two-day event, representatives from the different ministries frequently visited the BSF booth to inquire about the bio sand filters. The Community Development ladies also went “booth-hopping” to distribute flyers and bookmarks as they invite guests to listen to the BSF Orientation and Demonstration.
Kaye Quinones shared about the importance of clean water and how the bio sand filter works. She also explained how we educate community residents through our educational materials and participatory approach. Delfin Gentallan demonstrated how to install the filter and showed them how to maintain it with proper care. The actual installation impressed the audience since they got to smell and taste the filtered water. These representatives from different ministries were very interested to start a bio sand project in their adopted communities. Kaye informed them that as soon as they contact BSF Philippines, the Community Development team will schedule their respective areas for village profiling.
The Bukid sa Pagla-um event was successful in helping Christian ministries to network with one another. This has been the first gathering of ministries in Davao City. Due to its successful feedback, Hope Mountain will host another mission fest on the following year.Truly, it is good and pleasant to behold the brethren gather together in unity!
