Yesterday we went in little groups of three or four with an interpreter to pray for and bless people who were living in a tent city near the beach (beach not being as glamorous as it may sound). Many people had physical ailments, those who did not just wanted us to pray blessing on them. One malnourished toddler was laying lethargically on a sheet stretched over the floor, who rolled over and wet the bed as we laid hands on him to pray. Utter poverty, the closest living quarters you can imagine, minimal to no hygiene or nutrition available. A group of three relatively healthy young men wanted to be prayed for. Two of them just asked for us to pray for them to bless them. As we left that trio, one called out after us (in Creole): "That was better than rice. People have come and given us rice, but this was better." Enough said.
