Description

We are holding a fund raising dinner and evening of musical entertainment to raise money to free imprisoned women and children in Nakuru Kenya.

Women in Nakuru are often imprisoned for committing small offenses such as
selling vegetable in the market without a proper license. If a woman is
imprisoned, her children must go in as well. There are between 300-400
women prisoners in Nakuru--at least half are in for not being able to
pay small fines. About half of their children die in prison as a result
of poor food, little medicine etc.

Through Impact nations, a NGO reaching the poorest of the poor around the world, we CAN make a
difference. Impact nations has partnered with a local pastor from
Nakuru, Mike Brawan, who is working with the counsel of Nakuru to
ensure that each woman released from prison is given at least a 6
months license to carry out the business for which she was originally
imprisoned.

So how much does it cost to free a woman and her children from this injustice?

$88.00 to free one woman and her children

The meal is by donation. There is no minimum required donation. Bring what
you can and come and enjoy a night of good food and good fun.

FYI :Payments made by check (with applicable contact information) are
eligible for a tax receipt. Donations may also be made online at the
event using a credit card.

Hey!

So far we have funds pledged or given to free 15 to 20 mothers and their children. There will likely be more and it is still three day before Mother's Day. I would encourage you to make a donation to free a mother from jail for Mother's day and/or collect the spare change in your home and donate this amount to help free a mother.

Nakuru, Kenya Projects
I have decided to give the $150 honorarium I will receive for a workshop I will be leading for Special Education Assistances in Surrey School District in Metro Vancouver to this project This is extra income that I do not need I will top it by $26 dollar so that 2 mothers and their children can be freed. If you have, extra income that you do not need you may want to consider giving some or all of this to this project.

Cheers,

John
