Water Updates

Hi Impact team,Its been a while that we have'nt posted news on what is going on with our clean water project here in the Philippines.It is because we are busy doing several projects in two different islands here.Our work in the island of Luzon,Philippines is 50% done.We have 500 units of Biosand Water Filter ready to be distribuited,this means that atleast 2500 families will have clean drinking water for life soon.Our Mindanao manufacturing is slowly distributing filter to different places.Next…See More

I just sent this message to Tim and thought I'd also send it to you. I would appreciate any comment you might have.

"Another question on patching filters. You recommended VulcaSeal. I have found the produce here without problem but upon contacting the manufacturer have found that it is rated as toxic and not recommended for food or water filter use. My questions are - Do you only use it to patch leaks from the outside rather than from inside the filter body? How has it held up over time? I.E. Have any of the leaks reappeared? We're thinking of using a cement paste on the inside. Any comments on that"

Also, can you supply me with the ingredient mix you use for the concrete you use in the filter body?

Vulca Seal is brand of a roof sealant.you can get it at any hardare store.just say vulca seal and they know it.
To make one filter,mix 16 liters of fine sand,16 liters of 3/4 size gravel,20 kilos of cement(half bag),and 8 to 10 liters of water.Pour the last 2 liters of water gradually.

Thanks for providing the information on patching leaks in the filter bodies. I am not familiar with 'vulca seal'. Sounds like a tire patching product. Where do you get it? Also can you provide me with the ratio of the concrete mix you use? (Cement:sand:gravel:water). That would also be helpful.
I do appreciate your help as we are hoping to get something started here.
