For you He became poor

In Luke's gospel, Jesus is recorded as saying that 'the Son of Man had no place to lay his head' (Luke 9:58). In fact, Jesus who commands us to bring justice to the poor was no stranger to poverty - 'He became poor for our sake, so that we might become rich' (2 Corinthians 8:9).It is Friday afternoon and the three of us are walking down the 'street' in the tent city. Our attention is drawn to a man and woman sitting in the doorway of a tent. Our translator quickly establishes that this is where…See More

Love Haiti

It's Sunday - we are in our good clothes as we board the van for church. I have been down this road many times during this JOC but my eyes are still assaulted by the buildings that have been stripped of all dignity with their skeletal remains reaching into heavens mimicking the cries of 1000's on the day of the earthquake, crying "Mercy Jesus".Our guide tells us "We are here." We disembark and carefully make our way towards the church. It's still out of view when we hear the sounds of heaven -…See More

Joy of salvation

Posted on February 27, 2010 at 6:45pm 2 Comments

It was a warm evening and there were many listening to the invitation for salvation. The call was given - 'Come to Jesus' and many came forward. The most surprising thing is that some of the people who came, were hiding in the darkness and in the shadows far away from the stage.

I catch sight of an older man (maybe in his late 60's) who comes forward quickly to say YES to Jesus. After prayer the JOC team and local pastors move to lay hands on those who have come forward - even…

Expecting great things

It was so good to be able to share with a small church community in Pampanga (Philippines), how Jesus heals. At the conclusion of the service we prayed for the sick and yes, God healed many.

Over lunch Pastora Tess explains to us that next Sunday they will have a Harvest Thanksgiving service for the community. She explains that it will be a wonderful opportunity to apply all that we spoke about - the church will pray for all those from the community who are sick. We, and they,…

Change in Pampanga

Posted on February 25, 2010 at 5:37pm 0 Comments

As part of the small JOC team in the Philippines I am once again moved by what Father God has done in the lives of people here.

It is just on lunch time at our second clinic here in Pampanga. I am asked to help organise the team to take a lunch break - it is only when I speak to one of the 12 or so pastors who came from Manilla to help us that I realise they hadn't eaten at all that day - they must have left home at 3 am to get here but had not been able (afford?) to eat…

"A happy child makes a toy at Christmas"
Each year the Christian ministry SHADDAI the direction of the Holy Spirit is dedicated to spread joy and hope to all children attending the Children's Dining in different areas of the city of Chinandega. Precisely in the Christmas season, especially when dominated and growing sense of peace, love, solidarity and love of neighbor. The task is not easy, and that starts months before the request for support to each and every one of the good-hearted people who want to make a child happy at Christmas, for it sent a mass invitation to contribute to this noble cause with almost a token contribution, in this case 2010, we have determined to request an offering of $ 5.00 for each child, as these funds are invested in bring a lunch, a piñata and conclude with the presentation of a toy for each child.

The greatest satisfaction of all the team of Christian Ministry "El Shaddai" is to receive the invaluable prize of smiling children shouting for joy when you receive a lunch, a piñata and a toy in many cases not expecting these Christmas.

Only our Heavenly Father makes possible what many consider difficult.
God Bless ALL that good-hearted support year after year this worthy cause for children Chinandega.

"Every man according as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver."

Hi Ray,
A couple of things.
FIrst, you have been on my mind the past few days. How are you going? How is the transition from pastoring into ??? going? Is it hard on Lesley.
Thanks again for all the leadership you provided on the Phils trip. I always enjoy traveling with you so much. I know that Tim enjoyed your company a lot.
I have been on the phone with Cha lately. You probably know that she has crashed emotionally–a delayed reaction to her Mum's death, I am sure. I spoke with Sue about it, and she went to see Cha. What Cha did in the Phils was amazing, but it took a toll.
Secondly, I see that you have listed yourself as going to Haiti. Is that right? It will certainly be different than anything we have done before. I have been writing pastors that I know all over, asking them to awaken their people to the great need and great opportunity that is waiting for us all in Haiti. If you are still planning on coming, can you fill in the online application; we are now having to make preliminary plans and having a better idea of how many are coming will be a great help.
Here is a link to a short piece that I wrote about Haiti this week. Feel free to forward it to anyone who you think it would be good for.

Bless you, my friend.
Steve
P.S. We are still trying to get a confirmation from the Colonel in Butuan about the late Sept. JOC. If that happens, we would love to come to Oz beforehand.

Love to Lesley,
Steve
