Impact Nations

Women who run small businesses like selling vegetables, but don't have a license, are fined more than they can afford to pay, then thrown in prison with their children.

From Mike Brawan...

Women who have committed small offence are take to Jail with their children by paying for the charges.

Many poor women where not able to raise and pay for the charges for them to be released out of prison with their children hence lead to many children dying in prison.

We have about 16 women with children now that we are working out with the Authorities to get them out. Some of the children are even sick and we have been give then drags as per the donations we get.

We are believing God for 80,000/in the less than two weeks to be able to get them out.

Most of the women have been charged between 4000/= to 6000/= Kenya shillings.

Updates to This Project

More info from Steve:

In the I country, if a woman is imprisoned, her children must go in as well. There are 3-400 women prisoners in Nakuru--at least half are in for not being able to pay small fines. About half of their children die in prison--poor food, little medicine etc. He said they have homes to go back to, so the only issue is getting them set free.
Email from Givemore....

Can we not work on empowering the women, so that they will not go back to prison again, if they are to be caught selling again in the streets without the lisence for a livilihood?
I was suggesting working on their lisencing, Mike could certainly assist with that as a counsillor. OR
Starting a legal market for them to do formal trading.
Let me hear your thoughts on this.

Just a thought: getting them out of prison won't solve matters. It's keeping them from going back in again and again. The women have to feed their kids so they will 're-offend' and the corrupt cops knowing they will be bailed may be more inclined to keep re-arresting them. How do we deal with this?
Answer from Mike via email... thank you so much for all you are doing ,Good once we pay for there fine to released we always get them papers to work for six month then they can move on with life, also we give some different ideas so that they do something different so to avoid trouble

Email from the Mayor of Nakuru....

Hi, I hope you are well in the Lord. I am writing to thank you so much for the help you have done through Pastor Mike who is also a Councilor in Nakuru Town.

When Mike spoke about how Impact Nations is helping women come out of prison, we decided to be giving them a six months Municipal License free of charge so that the catch up with their business, this is only for a span of six months of which the council will review this again.

For the few women who have been released by the help of Impact Mission, we have seen a big change in their life and they are able also to catch up with their business quickly. For good example is of one of the woman who lost his baby in the prisons and was just released through your help is now doing a big business in Town.

Thank you so much, we are helping also so that we partake the blessings when God will be blessing you.

Yours Faithfully

Email from the Officer of the prison...

Hello Men of God, I am writing to thank you so much for helping to release the prisoners, the situation had worsen up that some died here for lack of any support. We appreciate your effort so much especially because of young children whom their mothers have been arrested for small mistakes.

There are so many who still need help here, most of them have committed minor crimes that have made them now suffer because of lack of support from their families who are not able to raise the charged fee for release.

Pastor Mike Brawan and Metro Church have been visiting us here to encourage the ones whoa are still here that God will take care of their situation. God bless you so much for the good work you are doing for his glory. It is our prayer that you don’t give up for many are in great need here.

Yours faithfully,

Email from one of the women freed from prison...

Hello, My name is Jane Ayuma, I am writing to thank the Impact Mission so much for the help of paying for me the charges at the Prison. I took your email address from Mike’s assistant Pastor and he dint know that I was going to write to you.

I was arrested with my two kids; one was one and half years old and the other one three years. The younger one passed away at the prison and was buried there; it has really been so painful there. I thank God for using Impact Nations to deliver me from the mouth of death. I was contemplating suicide for I had now hope any ware ells, the week I was planning to overdose myself with medicine is the week Pastor Mike came for our release.

Now my business is doing very well and my daughter is in School, God bless you so much, I don’t know even how to appreciate you people. Thank you once again Doug, Steve and the Impact Nations. The attached is my picture, just put me in your prayer list.

Yours

Jane Ayuma.

Thank you email from a freed woman...

Hi Impact Nations, I am writing not knowing who you are and even where you are from. I borrowed your Email address from a lady I was with in the Prison whom we were released together.

It is with great pleasure that I want to that you so much for the effort you made that lead to our release. I was to serve a six months sentence for just fighting with one of my neighbor; I served two months when Pastor Mike came with a good news that our bills are being paid for.

In there many are suffering to the extend of dying for the environment there is not pleasing at all. I am praying so much for some of my friends who where not able to come out with us that our good Lord may open door to and help them come out. I was there with my five months year old baby. I am attaching my picture and my son whom I was with in the Prison for two months.

May God richly bless your Ministry.

Yours faithfully,

Dina
