March 18, 2010 at 10am. We visit some of the areas who has a water filter. Personaly, iwas impress what see in the 3 families. 1.ERLINDA BERMUDEZ
- established near the water source with 8 members of the family. Testified that they are now using cool and clean water out of the purifier provided by the ICM.
2.ALEJANDRA MENDOZA
- established the filter inside the house used by 8 members of the family. A water pump, electric operated is now functional after subjecting the water to filter purifier. Taste is different compared to the usual water.
3.KGD. BENHUR PEÑOL
- established filter purifier in quite high elevation to prevent children to play and contaminated the purifier. We compared the taste direct from the faucet and that of subjected to the filter. It has a different taste that stimulate your to drink more and Kgd. Peñol further testified that all their white clothes are subjected to the purified water to maintain its whiteness.
These are some photos. When we deliver 60 filters in area last Feb. 6, 56 filters was instoled and many families enjoying the potable water. And last March 6, Brother Tote and the team delivered 66 filters. When I visited these morning, their is 43 filters lift. The blackout conditions in central Mindanao have made it very difficult for our team in Malipayon to report on their progress. We're working on a solution to this that will likely involve a visit from Toti and I in the next couple weeks.

In the meantime, I can tell you that the filter has had a great reception in the community. We recently delivered the second shipment, and all 65 filters were already sold before they had even arrived. In fact, Pastor Pol and the barangay captain are asking for an additional 70 units!

Toti and I joined Pastor Pol and his team in Malipayon on Saturday to officially launch the biosand filter project. We gathered some members of the community at the local gymnasium in the morning, where I was invited to talk to them about the need for safe drinking water. We discussed with them the ways that their local water can make them sick and then introduced the biosand filter as an excellent solution. We also discussed the idea of selling water to other members of the community as an opportunity to earn a small income.

After the large gathering, the 65 filters were unloaded from the truck and we returned to the local ICM office, located in the next town, Koronadal. Pol and I met to discuss some of the project details over lunch and then he gathered the team that was to receive the training. Toti and I were shocked to see that there were 25 attendees!
After Pastor Pol designated each person as either a salesman or an installation expert, I spent a few minutes talking to both teams about the history of the filter, the mechanics of the technology, some marketing ideas, and the nature of our project in Malipayon.

Toti then took the crew outside for the fun part: installation training. Everybody gathered around with their written manual as Toti demonstrated each step of the installation.

Once the demonstration was finished, Toti split them up in to teams to practice the process on their own while we observed. There was a lot of laughter and some people got very wet!

We had way more participants than I had expected, so I had the office staff print me up some more training certificates. But there were so many that the printer ran out of ink! We're looking forward to hearing from Pol soon about their progress and we'll probably return for a visit soon.

Hi Pol,

Looks like your plans are coming along nicely. I got your message about having the community gathering at 10am. We can do that, no problem, but there is one thing that you will really need to concentrate on between now and then.

It is so important that you have your procedures in place to take orders for filters during that gathering. There will be a lot of interest generated in the filter at that time, and we don't want to miss the opportunity. Can you send me whatever plans you have for managing orders? This includes the forms for writing the customer's information, the contract, and any plans for a down payment that you will be requiring. If you need any help with this, please let me know today so I can give assistance before we arrive.

Thanks! You're doing great!
