#314 Electricity for School


We can help educate 149 children by giving them electricity for $7 per child. Proposal from Victor Hannington...


BACK GROUND
The school started in 2008in Bulera Sub county Mityana District in Uganda. It was initiated as a solution to many abused children in our locality by parents, orphans who have no alternative in the world and the great degree of ignorance in the land. Children ended up in acquiring early marriage,
Becoming city house girls and hopeless individuals in the world due to lack of education and to get any degree holder in our community was a problem. Believers in my church also had children with the same problem .So as a pastor, I was duty bound to care for their spiritual life much as the social life.
I came up with a solution to start up a school which would cater for all sorts of nature of life i.e. orphans, abused children, church believers children and those with capable parents as well, in order to change the history of community which God has entrusted me with. I welcome all Kids of all denominations and end up preaching to them Christ who died for their sins and rose again so that they live hopefully in him. We began with 29 kids but in 2009 we had 149 kids and right now and more other still coming. This has come as a result of love towards the Kids, dedication by teachers, determination to teach regardless of what we earn.

CHALLENGE
The school has many children who can’t only study from the same room i.e. three classes are in the same room, each class in a corner and a staff corner to fully utilize the building. It has no windows which make it dark even during day time. Kids can’t read or write properly if congestion has to be catered for.

Many of our kids are abused by their parents at home in that they can’t do their home work or read at all from their homes for most of them are orphans and others leaving with step mothers who seem not to care about them.

Teachers also stay in houses without electricity because the school income can’t afford a house with electricity for teachers. So teachers can’t make lesson plans or schemes from their homes i.e pre-preparation.

SOLUTION:
It is our prayer that God will open doors for electricity so that the building will have it as a source of light for the kids to properly read and write.

It will help teachers to pre-plan for the kids before coming to class i.e. they will have enough light at school to enable them make schemes and lesson plans for the kids without any problem.

The abused kids will be able to have evening classes which will enable them do the home-work, have evening classes together with their teachers and hence will improve the education stand for the kids.

This will push us to a level of preparing supper for the abused kids who don’t take supper at their homes to have it at school when they come for evening lessons and will avoid hungry kids in the mornings.

It will help us with office work which is currently a problem. We spend a lot of money out of the little collected from tuition in getting exams which we would have done in our office and many other scholastic material work.

Due to the size of the building we have, heat from the roof which heats up very quickly in dry seasons, cause many kids to appear sleepy at noon hours which make them inactive. So with the help of electricity we can install fans which can control heat and make kids active for a better class.

When I asked Hannington what difference electricity would make to the school, he responded immediately. Obviously, he has been thinking about this for a while. First, he said that it would allow all the children to see their work during the daytime. Now there are a number of “dark places”, yet because of the numbers, some chldren simply have to be situated there. Secondly, lights would allow the teachers to stay after school and do their lesson preparations. (He explained that if they go home to do this, often their husbands insist that they may not do any school work.) Thirdly (and this, Huntington spoke most passionately about), he has a number of very bright students who have to go home to neglected or dangerous situations. He wants to provide an after school/early evening program to enrich their education and to give them a safe place to stay before they go home for a late supper (supper is served late here) and then to bed.

Certainly, Hannington is doing such a great job in his community. Working with quite a few pastors and church leaders in Africa, especially in Uganda, I have seen Hannington and his wife doing such a sacrificial work among their own community. If we can help them improve their learning atmosphere through providing this electricity, the impact will be invaluable! Thank you Steve for the blessing you are to all the villages around the nations.

I received this note from Hannington yesterday, which he requested me to pass on to you. ''Dear Impact Nations friends, I am very grateful for the support in helping us improve our children's lives, through your porvision of Electricity for Ebenezer Primary School. Robert gave me the funds and now the Electricity has been finally installed in the church hall, which holds the classrooms!'' Says Hanningto. I have posted some photos of the progress and the project has made such a great impact already at the school. Hannington was caring for 149 children but now the number has risen to 175 already! What an impact!!! Thank you Impact Nations. Robert

Email from Hannington Victor... Hello to all members of Impact team,God has made it at last!!!! The Impossible has become possible!!.... We want to convey our appreciation to impact Nations for the great work you did for Ebenezer primary school in Bulera when you funded electricity project. Everyone in the village is so happy and sees the hope of the school after we were connected.
The kids and teachers are so happy.Government officials also appreciate what you did.

The church population has started shooting up also.Time is now properly utilized by teachers to make their lesson plans for the next day at night and evening classes for kids have been put in place.
The environment at school has totally changed .

No way we can show our intensive appreciation but can only do it in one sentence that " God bless you Impact Nations" .The poor hopeless kids have gained hope together with their parents.
Parents are also very happy and hope to see you again to express their Joy.

It was great to catch up with Hannington last night, since I came back from Canada! What is happening in Bulera is undeniably the hand of God! Just because someone gave money towards electricity for the small school, life in whole community has changed tremendously, and very fast!

Hannington was relaying how the community leaders are surprised at what God is doing in Bulera, through the school and the church! This one guy, who even Hannington doesn't know, is in a village meeting and from nowhere declares: '' This is the most growing church in our community...( a community of over 8,000!). The electricity light ignited people's spiritual darkness and today he has broken the church building twice! The feeding of kids is another add-on!! You are making a difference in this community which is going to impact the whole district! Thank you again!! Robert
