Fight from Victory

Author: Mike Leiding

Ephesians 6 verse 12 talks about that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, it is against the rulers, authorities and powers of darkness and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Before you go on, read this verse in a couple different versions if you can and a few times over.

Any and every fight, discouragement, fit of anger, hurt, bitterness, unforgiveness, saddness, insecurity, depression, addiction and abuse is ALL due to the spiritual battle that is waging war on us. We cannot fight spiritual battles with earthly weapons. We cannot fight any of the above things mentioned with earthly knowledge, giftings and tools. They will help as they were given to us by God but that is not where the battle is fought and won. It is fought and won in the spiritual realm. We can't confuse this. Our battle is not against flesh and blood.

Even when someone offends you, it is a spirit in them or in you that is doing the offending or getting offended. We have to constantly be in tune to the Holy Spirit and counter the accusation of the devil in the Spirit. The Word of God is a weapon. If you don't read it and use it, you will be taken down and destroyed. You can use our Spiritual weapons on earthly battles.

Battling earthly situations with earthly weapons is like trying to put out a fire with gas.

Put out earthly fires with the water of the Holy Spirit. This is a conscious and intentional act on our parts because we are not naturally wired this way.

We naturally go to fighting hate with hate or bitterness with rejecting the person who rejected you. This is not what Paul was talking about. We need to look at Jesus and how He lived His life as an example. We have all the weapons of warfare that we will ever need and they are accessible in Christ not in earth.
When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He used Spiritual weapons to fight against the devil. He used Scripture and that is what defeated the enemy. When we do, we will have the strength to stand in situations that we normally would not be able to stand in.

Jesus has sent you out into this world and He has not sent you out weaponless or unprepared. You may feel unprepared as we learn and grow, but God does not depend on our human preparedness or abilities or character to determine our effectiveness. You are prepared, in and only in, the fact that you are a child of the King of Kings and you have His Holy Spirit inside you to guide you and teach you and speak to you moment by moment. Don't ever look at your own abilities and base your ability to do this or that based on this. He will use you if you are willing even if you are not gifted in the area He is calling you into. This is called faith, and without faith it is impossible to please God. Faith is one of the pieces of armour. We have to live by faith and walk by faith to please God.

Don't limit yourself thinking that you can't do this or that based on your skill sets. If God has called you to do something, you do it. Delayed obedience is disobedience. He doesn't always call us to comfortable things. He didn't live a comfortable life either. Jesus said that if we want to be His disciples we would have to deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow Him.

When God called people to follow Him, He called them from something they were very familiar with to something they had no idea about. Every single one of them had a major weakness. Peter denied Jesus 3 times at the most significant time in history. Thomas was a doubter. Moses was a studderer and a stammerer. David was an adulterer. Saul was a Christian killer. There were tax collectors and every other sort of misfit that Jesus called out and said, "Come follow me". They dropped everything and followed Him immediately. Remember the rich young ruler who had followed all the commandments, then Jesus challenged him to sell all he had and give it to the poor and come and follow Him? Don't let anything stop you from dropping everything for the sake of His call in your life.

He never promised comfort and luxury. Anyone who preaches that is preaching wrong gospel. He said follow Me and I will make you fishers of men. Our purpose in life is to bring them to Christ. Isaiah 58:6-14 Hebrews 13:2-3 Matthew 25:34-40 James 2:14-19 James 1:27

If we are carriers of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God we need to be willing to do what Jesus did and go where Jesus went. It is not comfortable all the time and it is a life of faith. Matthew 28:18-20---- This is the Great Commission. This is one of the greatest things that Jesus said to His disciples. We are also disciples just like them. These were Jesus' last words to His disciples. He was saying that all authority is His now, and now He was giving them that same authority to go and do what He did. He had spent the last 3.5 years with them and they had watched and learned. Jesus never said in these verses to go and make happy people that believe that Jesus was a good prophet. He said to go and make disciples of all nations. Disciples follow what Jesus did and go where Jesus went, and that was to the prostitutes, downcast, abused, hurt, offended etc etc. and He proclaimed the Good news of the Kingdom of God. Look at what Jesus did, and say to yourself, "so can I". You can only say this because of the Holy Spirit living in you and the Holy Spirit's desire for the fullness of Jesus to be lived out THROUGH you, not just in you.

Jesus did nothing without the Father telling Him to do it. All that He did was from the Father because He was living in a close and intimate relationship with the Father. That is how we are going to affect and change our world, is by being in the Father and the Father in us, just like Jesus.

If you fight and move from this stance, you are prepared and armed for victory.
